Member Spotlight: Renee Sanchez Leal

The hustle can be hectic, and sometimes it feels like there just isn’t enough time in the day to get it all done. This includes getting to know your fellow members! Our Grindstone Member Spotlight was built to help you connect with other coworking members, even when you’ve got a jam-packed day. Today, we’ll meet Renee Sanchez Leal.

Q: Tell us a little about what you do, Renee.

A: I own a consulting firm focused on business compliance and employee relations.

Q: How long have you been operating your business?

A: 5 months

Q: How did you form the concept for Iris Consulting?

A: Ten years in the medical industry doing compliance for my employer while simultaneously going to school majoring in communication studies and communication training & development. This is a combination of the two.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in 2018?

A: I’m looking forward to personal growth and change in 2018.

Q: Who would you consider your perfect customer?

A: An independent business that does not have the manpower within their own company to manage compliance practices and employee relations – soft skills training.

Q: Who/what inspires you?

A: The naysayers. People who tell others to do something more practical and safe with their lives. Those people motivate me to prove them wrong.

Q: What does a typical work day look like for you?

A: Coffee and planning out my day/week. Reading up on relevant literature pertaining to the latest requirements and regulations for compliance. Calling and scheduling appointments with potential clients. Scheduling consultation appointments with clients to go over current policies, as well as preparing training material & specialty assessments for employees.

Q: Which do you prefer after a long week of hustling? A quiet night in or a wild night out?

A: I’d love to say wild night out, but I’m secretly an 80-year-old woman so I stick with a quiet night in. I only have so much energy for wild nights out.

Q: What are you currently binging on Netflix?

A: I’m not Netflix binging anything right now, but I’m Hulu binging The Strain.

Q: What role does social media play in your business?

A: Social media is a good avenue and method of communication but there is something to be said about face-to-face communication. This is especially true in a business such as communication consulting. Social media is a good forum for marketing but should not be the only method.

Q: What’s your ideal vacation spot?

A: Anywhere near water. That’s where I find my peace & serenity. The beach & Lake Travis are at the top of my lists.

Q: What is your ultimate goal for your business?

A: Provide an affordable service to businesses in the Rio Grande Valley and assist them in managing their compliance and investing in their long-term employees. It’s not about money or getting rich. It’s about taking care of the people in this area to ensure they don’t find themselves on the wrong side of the compliance regulations for their business.

Q: In a movie about your life, who would play you?

A: Definitely Anna Kendrick. She’s my spirit animal and we’re both strange, quirky, short, can sing, & make weird faces, haha!

Q: What are you hoping to achieve during your time at Grindstone?

A: Learning the tools to grow Iris Consulting while simultaneously networking & coworking with other like-minded individuals who are looking to be successful entrepreneurs.
