Grindstone Member Spotlight: Jake Berry

Today we caught up with Jake Berry, founder of 956sports.com and featured member this week in our Member Spotlight Series. Jake was born in North Carolina and moved to the Rio Grande Valley after 2001, but grew up all over the world. We sat down with him in a rapid fire Q&A to find out a little bit about Jake, what he does, and how he works in Grindstone Coworking.

Q: Tell us about your business? What do you help your clients do?

I own a sports news website that offers in-depth articles, videos, and stories. Our work has been seen on ESPN, CNN, HBO, Showtime and other national outlets and we have won numerous awards for the items we have published on the web. We help our advertising partners reach their target demographics and help build brand awareness for their products.

Q: What’s your creative outlet?

I like design work; and creating TV and Radio shows.

Q: Where is your go-to place to relax?

South Dakota! It doesn’t sound like fun, but I went to part of high school and college there and it’s relaxing.

Q: Where is your go-to place to fun?

Vegas. Forget about the real world for a few days, what could be better.

Q: What’s your favorite book?

Catcher in the Rye or The Notebook. Just kidding… Catcher in the Rye.

Q: What’s your favorite part about working at Grindstone Coworking?

I like being able to talk shop with others who are in the same boat as me.

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve received that has helped you with your business?

Keep pivoting. No business stays the same throughout, if you don’t change or adapt your business will fail.

Q: What kind of music do you like listening to while you work?

Need some easy to listen to. I hate country, but I listen to Sam Hunt. Keeps me on task.

Q: What streaming service do you use? Pandora, Spotify, Apple, Other?

Pandora and Apple

Q: Apple or Android?

Apple

Q: What’s one tip for mobile workers you would like to share?

Get yourself a Mediafire account. I like it better than Dropbox and I place all my crucial stuff on there so that i can work anywhere.

Q: What’s your favorite social media platform? Why?

Twitter is my favorite. I like that you don’t have much space to write, so you can’t bore people like other outlets.
